HomeWell on NBC’s Daytime: What to Look For When Visiting Aging Loved Ones
By Andrew Hurst

Tampa, FL — November 6, 2025 — As families across the country prepare to gather for the holidays, many adult children will have a unique opportunity to observe how their aging loved ones are truly managing life at home. To help families recognize the subtle signs that additional support may be needed, Michelle Cone, Senior Vice President of Industry Engagement for HomeWell Franchising, the parent company of HomeWell Care Services, appeared on Daytime, Tampa Bay’s NBC-affiliated morning show on WFLA, to discuss the importance of checking in on older relatives during the holiday season.
During the segment, Cone highlighted how the holidays provide more than just time for celebration—they offer an important window into the daily lives of older loved ones. “Start by noticing how they’re spending their time,” she explained. “Are they getting out and running errands? Are they interacting with their community? Those are positive things that we want to look for when we go home and see our loved ones for the first time in what could be weeks or months.”
Cone also outlined several common warning signs that may indicate a loved one could benefit from in-home support. These include confusion or forgetfulness, changes in mood or hygiene, noticeable weight fluctuations, or difficulty moving around safely. The condition of their home can also reveal clues—such as expired food, clutter, or missed chores—that suggest help may be needed.
“Things that are out of the norm for them—those could be red flags you’ll want to look for. If you notice these things are happening, you’ll want to consider potentially calling your loved one after the holidays when things calm down a little bit and have truthful, engaging conversation with them. And if you are concerned and don’t know where to turn, I recommend calling your local HomeWell Care Services office.”

HomeWell can help families determine the right level of support and provide peace of mind knowing a loved one is safe at home.
