The Commission on Accreditation for Home Care

To further the impact of HomeWell’s mission and our role within the continuum of care, we are honored to serve on the Board of Trustees for the Commission on Accreditation for Home Care (CAHC). The CAHC has been setting the standards for quality home care services since 1986, bringing in-depth knowledge of state legislation, rules and regulations and sharing ongoing collaborative relationships with state home care governance authorities.

Our family has used HomeWell services for home care for a Senior Citizen member of our family who lives in northern NJ and needed to recover at home from a major injury and surgery. HomeWell was recommended to our family by the physical rehabilitation facility where our family member was recovering after the surgery.

First, a nurse and staff coordinator from HomeWell met in person with the family and visited the home to make a care plan and advise how the home could be made most suitable for the recovery. The advice on preparing the home was especially valuable. Next, over the course of several months, a HomeWell staffer lived at the home to be available round the clock. The staffer provided support for daily tasks like laundry and cooking, offered additional safety against falls or other injury, and drove the recovering family member to doctor appointments, shopping and other local activities. In addition, a Registered Nurse from HomeWell visited for about an hour every month to assess vital signs and provide medical guidance for both the recovery and also other ongoing care.

Two different HomeWell live-in staff worked with our family during this time. They are both courteous and professional, and had long experience in this kind of work. The RN and other staff were likewise.

I would recommend HomeWell to any person or family who lives in northern NJ and needs exactly this kind of live-in support. Thank you HomeWell!

HomeWell has been an absolute dream to work with. My mom was discharged from the hospital on hospice and to say her discharge day was draining and chaotic would be an understatement. Carol, the live-in caregiver we were gifted through HomeWell, along with her supervisor Mallory immediately stepped into the chaos to help get my mom settled. They recognized how overwhelmed I was and helped organize things in the home so I could focus on getting her hospice care set up. They were kind, patient, and respectful to me, my mom, my brother, and their home.

I was convinced my mom wouldn't last more than a week once she left the hospital. However, Carol is truly a gift from above and I firmly believe she is a huge part of why my mom's condition has improved. She has taken the time to understand my mom - what works, what doesn't, when to push and when to give space. My mom went from barely eating or being able to interact to enjoying the food Carol offers and her time with family and friends who visit. My heart no longer breaks when I see my mom - she is alert, chatty, laughs, and usually wants a sweet treat. Carol treats her with dignity, compassion, humor, and patience. She makes sure my mom is clean, comfortable, fed, and safe, not to mention spends precious time keeping her company.

Mallory has also been an amazing support to our family. She regularly checks in to see how things are going, offers emotional support and education, and ensures that there is a smooth transition for my mom when a covering caretaker is needed for the rare days that Carol takes off.

Caring for an older person with dementia is not easy - it is truly a work of the heart. We are so blessed that we found HomeWell, Carol, and Mallory to support us and our mom during a really tough chapter for our family.
